Founded in 1985, the Washington Wetskins is the longest continuously operating water polo team in the U.S. openly welcome to individuals who identify as LGBTQ. The Wetskins is a player-driven organization committed to being an active member of Team DC, a LGBTQ sports community. To maintain this tradition, we ask all players to commit a few hours per year to volunteering at practice, tournaments, and at club sporting events around the DC area.

The Wetskins have proudly represented the Washington metro area in numerous national and international competitions. Our journeys have included local competitions in the Washington area as well tournaments in Paris, Amsterdam, Sydney and Chicago. The Wetskins are members of the USA Water Polo association as well as IGLA, the International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics organization, and hosted the water polo portion of the 2008 IGLA games in DC.

The Wetskins is an entirely self-supporting team. We currently have no corporate sponsorship and rely on our fundraising activities to remain viable competitors. We welcome all support from the community at large.

The Wetskins welcomes newcomers whether or not they have played water polo before. Please see New Players Tab for information about specific requirements if you are new to the game. We are also open to members of other swimming and water polo teams wishing to play water polo with us.
